Von Zichy, Mihaly

(10/15/1827 Zala, Hungary- 2/28/1906 St. Petersburg) (Hungary / Russia / France); aka Zichy, Michael von / Siczy, Mihaly von

   Painter, lithographer, and draughtsman. Studied under G. Marastoni in Pest and with F. Wald-mueller at the Academy in Vienna. In 1847 he went to St. Petersburg to be a drawing master, then in 1856 he was a court painter for Tsar Alexander II, and in 1874 he left Russia for political reasons, settling in Paris, also traveling to England and Hungary. At various times he worked in Budapest, Vienna, Paris, St. Petersburg, and Moscow. The Love series of 41 plates was published in 1911 in a limited edition of 300.
